iPhone killer? Samsung S4

Will the so called “life companion” that is the new Samsung S4 be the phone that over takes in the iPhone? Well it has all the features, it’s actually feature packed and has some amazing extras like the much vaunted eye control scroll, a 13 megapixel camera, a 5 inch full HD  super-AMOLED screen and it’s super light and super quick, weighing in at just 130 grams with 1.6GHz Exynos processor.

So on paper it has everything. Samsung is definitely making up ground on Apple. They spent around $410 million advertising the Galaxy last year in the US. Apple spent a niggardly $310 million on the iPhone.

It’s a close run race – probably closer than we think. In the last quarter of 2012, Apple sold 17.7m iPhones compared to Samsung who managed to ship 16.8m phones – that is a serious amount of hand sets. These two are the clear front runners.

But will Samsung win in the replacement market – getting people to swap their iPhone or whatever they currently have to a Samsung is a tough battle, especially as the new (first time owner) market is beginning to dry up.

The head says Galaxy S4, the heart says iPhone. It’s a hearts and minds battle – Samsung know that and they are not prepared to play second fiddle. They are definitely going to #1. At the very least they have Apple looking over their shoulder.
