Problem? Blame social media

You may not like social media but my god, if you’re up sh*t creek without a paddle, it’s an absolute Godsend. You can blame social media for any of societies ills, blame it for any of our political debacles and obviously all of our own personal traits and misgivings.
‘Social media companies must do more. And I will be demanding them make sure they remove this that or the other content‘
Standard response by any minister to any problem their department is facing.
For example, today Matt Hancock blames anti-vax content ‘promoted’ on social media for the rise in the number of unvaccinated children against measles.
Traditional media, the newspapers, the BBC etc won’t every question or quiz ministers lurch to blame social media because Facebook, Twitter and so on are the single biggest threats to their own revenue streams.
News is reported quicker on social media and social ads are better targeted and perform better than their print or website ads.
Social media isn’t perfect and has some cleaning up to do. But before you believe it is to blame for everything just have a think about where the real problem lies.
Where is the government funded pro vaccination education programme, where is the legislation that stops un-vaccinated children going to school, where even is the vaccination recording system that would track who has and has not been vaccinated? Ask Mr Hancock, it’s his responsibility.
