Phood for thought. Pheed.

There is a lot of noise right now about Pheed, the new social media network that allows users to charge others to subscribe to their – well, Pheeds. So is this the new face of social media? A social platform that gets the “money” thing right out in the open from the get go?

Knife Box Digital took a look and signed up. Firstly, its extremely cool. It’s very American, specifically Los Angeles, lots of celebs seem to be hanging out on Pheed. Miley  Cirus and Paris Hilton are on there. The major differences to other social networks are –

  • You own the content you post
  • Yo can integrate your Facebook and Twitter feeds easily
  • You can stream live events through your “channel” and charge people to watch it. So for example, you know how Facebook does those live events when they launch something new. You could do the same and charge people to watch it.

Everything else on Pheed is pretty similar to Facebook, apart from the rather annoying substitution of “ph”for anything “fer” related. Family becomes “Phamily” and so on.

Knife Box really likes the look of it. The coolness, it’s genuinely attractive to look at with some great content on there from – on the phace of it some very cool people.

But it’s content I can probably get elsewhere for free. Pheed will really take off if sports, bands and shows start streaming events on there and you have to make a micro payment to see it.

Knife Box thinks the real difference with Pheed is that it could give these events a real social feel (Pheel) with people interacting with content as it happens and thus drawing in other viewers.

The fact that they have been totally upfront about the pay per view side of things is great and most definitely the way forward outside of the advertising route which on social networks has a value albeit limited.

We at Knife Box Digital, in humble old Norwich say get on Pheed and give it a go.

App.net is another good Social Media platform which charges users to be a part of it. Well worth looking at. Will keep my eyes peeled on Pheed too!
