How to write a good blog.

In my earlier post I hopefully made a pretty strong case (200% rise in organic traffic) to businesses to set up and start blogging about their products and services to help both their customers and Google rankings. But that didn’t really tell you what you should be blogging about or how to do it.

So there are a few things be aware when trying to write a good blog.

This is not just simply trying to blog about the most popular topics because there is a lot of search volume for those topics. Lots of people will be blogging about that already.

Just have a think about the things that your customers are interested in, they will be the ones who will judge whether your blog is good or not a good blog.

So the sorts of things that I think would make good blogs would be things that explain –

– what benefits do I get from buying your products

– how does product A compare to product B

– how to get the most out of product A

– the top ten products in a category (everyone loves a list)

Don’t forget you’re supposed be the expert here so you should know what you’re talking about.

Now obviously you don’t want to be wasting time, your valuable time writing about stuff that no one is interested  in so a bit of keyword research will help in two key ways.

Firstly, it will tell you how many searches there are a month – which is great but it will also help you to understand the sorts of words (terms) that people are using to search.

The later is important because you want to make your blog keyword rich without “stuffing” and making unreadable. A tricky balance that takes a quite a bit of practice and diligence.

But the results can be really good that readers might share and that other sites might link to. Now that would be a good blog.
